Eliot Cobb Likes What He Sees at eBags

Eliot Cobb, Co-Founder and Original CFO at eBags.com is happy with the current trends at the online retailer of luggage and bags. As my brother mentions (see quote below), things are starting to move in the luggage sector, and the Baggallini example is just the beginning of an upward trend. I would not be surprised to see apparel sales (including luggage and handbags) up 20% by the Holiday season.

"At online retailer eBags.com, sales of Baggallini products — which range in price from an $8.13 toiletry bag to a $134 rolling tote — are up 14 percent at a time when overall sales are flat, said Peter Cobb, the Greenwood Village, Colo., company’s co-founder and senior vice president of marketing. Baggallini’s success has come from developing products that are “an affordable luxury,” Cobb said. “It’s easy for women to convince themselves that they want this,” Cobb said. “If it’s a $500 Coach purse, these days those are the sales that are easy to say, ‘I’m going to hold off.’” source: Portland Business Journal

Twitter, SEO Ranking and Some Facts

Everyone knows about Twitter by now. Here are some facts about twitter posts that are relevant to SEO:

–Many Twitter users like to use tiny url’s to link their posts to more information beyond the 140 character limit. Keep in mind search engines do not index tiny url’s, but they do pass PR on to the url’s.

–Twitter adds a “nofollow” tag to links posted by users. For those who don’t know, that means Twitter is saying ignore these links. Most SE’s comply with that like Google, MSN, etc. A few like Ask.com don’t, so you can get some value as far as site rankings with some smaller SE’s

–Twitter posts that do contain a tiny url, tend to get higher click through rates, than tiny url’s left on other posting mechanisms like Blogs.

–The biggest positive is that it links users, traffic, unique visitors, etc. to your site which is what you’re after in the end.

Twitter isn’t a huge SEO difference maker, but is something that should be considered along with all the traditional site site ranking and keyword ranking tools.

Three SEO Screw Ups That Can Cost You Big

#1 - An Uninteresting Title

If you’re giving your article a title, make it short and exciting. Don’t use titles like: “An New Idea to Increase your Hits and Generate More With Your Internet Web Site by Changing Your Web Site Pages ”

#2. – Content That Reads Like a Science Study

Remember users have a short amount of time and want to get to the point. Give them what they need to know quickly and in an interesting manner. People want a reason to read an article, and one way is to grab the reader with non-boring content.

#3. - Scam the Search Engines

Google has been around for many years now and has seen just about every scheme possible. Don’t try to trick them into thinking your site is important by using scams to try and fool them.
